Don’t Fall Victim to FTC Impersonation Scams

On Behalf of | Mar 31, 2025 | Credit Report

The Federal Trade Commission, or FTC, has released a consumer alert warning Americans about an upsurge of scammers impersonating the agency to con consumers out of their money. These scams can appear legitimate at first blush and can be intimidating. Often the imposter is privy to personal information about the consumer and may threaten that the consumer is on the hook for serious crimes if they do not comply.

Luckily, there are sure-fire ways to spot a scam. Remember, the FTC, like most consumer protection agencies, will NEVER:

  • ask you for money
  • threaten you
  • promise you a prize
  • instruct you to transfer or withdraw money
  • request a verification code
  • or contact you by text message
